Meet Poe, My Tiny Orange Menace

Growing up, I always had gray tabby cats. As much as I loved them, I always dreamed of having a different kind of cat someday. That’s when I found Poe. She is an orange bobtail tabby.

I got Poe from my groomer, who works with me at my pet store. What makes her even more special is that she’s an orange female cat, which I later learned is fairly rare. Her full name is Edgar Allen “Poe.”

The story behind her name is actually pretty funny. When I first got her, I thought she was a boy. I filled out all of her paperwork at the vet and officially named her Edgar Allen Poe. After everything was signed, the vet came back and informed me that “he” was actually a she! At that point, all the paperwork was done, and honestly, I loved the name too much to change it. So Edgar Allen Poe she remained. Most of the time, though, I just call her Poe or Edgar.

Before getting her, I had heard all the stories about orange cats being chaotic little troublemakers. Let me tell you—they were not exaggerating.

This girl is an absolute menace. She runs through the house at full speed, picks fights with everyone, jumps on me 24/7, and somehow always finds a way to get into something she shouldn’t. One minute she’s causing complete chaos, and the next she’s curled up beside me demanding cuddles.

Honestly? She’s perfect.

Introducing Poe to my 5-year-old tabby was a little nerve-wracking. It took about two weeks for my older cat to fully accept her. Now they’re best friends. My tabby treats Poe like her own baby, and the two of them spend their days play-fighting, chasing each other around the house, and getting into mischief together.

Poe may be chaotic, loud, and occasionally destructive, but she has brought so much laughter and happiness into my home. Every day with her is an adventure, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Do you have an orange cat? Are they as wild as Poe? Let me know in the comments—I would love to hear your orange cat stories!
